Movie: The Theory of Everything

This movie is advertised as the story of Stephen Hawking; could be subtitled the story of Jane, his loving wife. Powerful acting and amazing story. Stephen is now over 70 – he has lived with ALS since his diagnosis at age 21. He has 4 grandchildren and he is still teaching. (P.S. You don’t have to know physics to appreciate this film.)

Visitation Calendar in February

This month we are called to be friendly and show hospitality for peace with our smiles. Hospitality and friendly greetings are key to the theme of "Visitation." And they are key to building peace. In recent years our country has become increasingly polarized politically and economically. We are not alone, as the United States and many other countries are experiencing a similar trend. Working to build commonalities and avoid polarization and working to address the ever growing gap between the rich and the poor in Canada, are just two ways that JPIC is building peace in this way.

Visitation Province Assembly

We are pleased to share information about our facilitator for the 2015 Visitation Province Assembly in Toronto. Many Congregation of Notre Dame sisters are familiar with Nancy Sylvester, IHM, through her work at General Conference and with Blessed Sacrament Province. She comes to us highly recommended. Sister Nancy founded the Institute for Communal Contemplation and Dialogue in 2002 in response to her experiences working for justice and right relationships in church and society. Sister Nancy brings her commitment to dialogue and collaborative work style and her belief that the impasse being experienced currently in the work of transformation of church and society requires a contemplative response. Sister Nancy has written several articles on contemplation for NCR’s Global Sisters Report. Her web page will tell you more.

The committee, with Sister Nancy, encourages all sisters and associates in Visitation Province to commit to reading, reflecting and dialoguing on communal contemplation. This week, we suggest reading “Contemplation: A Call to All” and “When Words Won’t Work.”
