June Article for The Rhode Island Catholic Sr. Patricia McCarthy, CND

Often in any faith, cultural practices and religious devotions take on lives of their own. Christmas and Easter are the most obvious ones in the Christian faith. The birth and resurrection of Christ are commonly replaced by Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. Some lesser known feasts can fall into more subtle traps. CND Associate Relationship Newsletter

Quote from PEI Associate Dorena Hall after reading Sister Ann Broderick’s Letter to Visitation Associates encouraging Sisters and Associates to support the Congregation of Notre-Dame Corporate Climate Stance: “What an inspiring letter! Supporting the Corporate Stance offers us an opportunity to help build God's kingdom here on earth. It is our Christian responsibility to let our light shine, to be a voice for those who suffer the most from climate change. Thanks for this.”

“Together, we will answer the call and raise one Congregational voice in unity of heart and mind for the sake of Mother Earth”…. (March 25, 2015 letter from Central Office).

During the past several months, Sisters and Associates have been reading and discussing the topic of Climate Change and what can be done to reverse the effects and slow down the forward momentum. As we gathered in May to celebrate the Feast of Visitation, sisters renewed their vows and associates their commitments and we all were invited to sign the Climate Change—Taking A Stand (Our Demand). For the associates in Visitation East, these signature forms are to be sent to Winnie Odo who will be compiling the results to send to the Central Office of Associate Relationship in early June. We thank you all for your participation in this important event that involved the whole Congregation (sisters and associates living mutuality).
