February Gathering of Miramichi Associates

Marjorie Vautour

On Wednesday, Feb 11, 2015 fourteen Congregation of Notre Dame associates joined together in fellowship and love for their monthly gathering. We are feeling very blessed to have the presence of Sr. Marie St. Coeur, CND in our midst to help us plan and to participate at our meetings. We opened with our prayer to St. Marguerite Bourgeoys followed by the hymn “Peace is Flowing like a River” which contains the line – “setting all our captives free”. This was a precursor to the theme for our meeting about St. Josephine Bakhita. We also spoke about our own Sister Gilberte, CND and all she must have had to experience when she was in captivity.

I feel that we live in the greatest country in the world; however, even in Canada we have many horrific stories of murder, rape, slavery and violence taking place in our neighbourhoods. The sharing was filled with our own stories of remembered local tragedies but we also spoke about our faith, hope and necessity for charity in our communities. We agreed that there is nothing in this world more powerful than prayer. We dedicated our meeting, our prayers and our love to all those who are suffering today and asked for the promise to continually pray for peace.

Our meeting closed with the prayer to Saint Josephine Bakhita and we continued with grace, the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be thus concluding our gathering with lunch and fellowship.
