Associate Relationship News - Coordinators Visits in Nova Scotia

Visitation East

We are reporting on the visits that we made to some of the Associate Groups in Nova Scotia in September. All the groups were so hospitable and welcomed us into their homes. They are also excellent cooks – we enjoyed birthday chocolate cake, biscuits, squares, breads, jams at their gatherings! Yum Yum!

Our first visit was in Truro, NS, at the home of Joan Fraser on September 14 in the afternoon. Six Associates were able to attend. In addition to prayer and their regular meeting, they celebrated the Truro Associate September birthdays. As it turned out, it was Roby Barrett’s birthday! At the September meeting each year, one of the Associates brings red roses (one for each Associate) in honour of Sr Anne Gillis, CND, who always gave each Associate a rose on their birthday.

Standing: Mary Lou Chaisson, Marjorie Allison-Ross, Trudy Cox, Bev Brazil, Joan Fraser. Sitting: Anne Marie MacDonald, Roby Barrett.

Our next stop was Pictou that evening.

The Group met in their new meeting centre. It was the former parish Rectory and is now being converted into an upstairs apartment and the downstairs will be a meeting space for community groups. We were given a tour of the building. After the prayer and meeting program, we enjoyed a lovely time of sharing stories and a cup of tea with a delicious snack. Winnie and I were invited to stay overnight and experience the warm hospitality of Gwen Langille-MacKinnon and her husband Wayne. Thank you Gwen.

On the Road Again! On Monday, September 15, we spent the day driving to Mabou. We stopped frequently so I could take pictures. If you haven’t already guessed, photography is one of my hobbies! We could see the beauty of God everywhere in Cape Breton that day!

Before we arrived in Mabou, we stopped to visit a Journeying Associate at her Restaurant in Port Hood to have a visit and a refreshment break with her. She is the sister of Mabou Associate Josephine MacNeil. The two sisters pose for a photo after the meeting.

Later in the afternoon, we arrived in Mabou at the St Joseph Renewal Centre! What a beautiful spiritual place. We were made to feel so welcome.

We met with the Associates and Sisters that evening. Winnie placed a photo of Sr Claire Beaton in the prayer space and advised the group that she was praying at home while we were meeting. The Associates learned that evening that Sr Claire Beaton will be residing at Parkland in Sydney and the Mabou Group of Associates has to choose someone to be a Group Leader. The theme of the Prayer was about change. After prayerful consideration, Josephine MacNeil agreed to be their Group Leader.

Visit to Parkland CND Sisters

On Wednesday, September 17, some Sydney area Associates joined us with a visit to the Sisters who live at Parkland. We all prayed the Rosary together and then had a time of refreshment and visitation.

While in Halifax for the ARCAN Meeting, Winnie and Marjorie spent an evening with Sr Nina Glinski. As you can see, we had fun doing a “selfie”.
