NETWORKING! Catholic Network for Women’s Equality – New Brunswick

Eleanor McCloskey, CND

On Saturday, October 18, CNWE-NB (Catholic Network for Women’s Equality – New Brunswick) had a Fall day of Reflection, featuring a presentation from Mary Hanson, a Congregation of Notre Dame Associate from Woodstock sharing about her summer visit to the Philippines. Mary travelled with 13 other Canadians on a Development and Peace organized trip. David Lewis, a CNWE member from Saint John spoke about D & P and this year’s fall campaign: Sow Much Love (see Mary shared, with maps and souvenirs, her journey and the struggles and joys of the people she encountered. After lunch, we enjoyed a presentation from the local Saint John Filipino community. About 15 of them came and loved seeing the maps, showing us where they came from and checking out Mary’s treasures. They sang some of their national songs, and we saw videos of their well-known dances. The closing prayer was a duet by Ophelia and Willie. They harmonized on The Prayer. (We’ve heard this from Celine Dion, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, etc.). Absolutely beautiful! We learned a great deal about D & P, about the experience of being an immigrant in Canada, maintaining "home" values and culture, about the Philippines, and some people learned more about CNWE!
