Chapter retreat “Where is God not where I thought God was?

Frances MacDougall, CND

One of the themes of the Chapter retreat was “Where is God not where I thought God was?” This theme was helpful in setting the stage for our creative presentation.

Sisters Maureen Baldwin, Karen Kelly and Sue Kidd had met and decided on the script earlier. They created an “alphabet song” using words from the small group reports from Visitation Province. They provided us with 26 brightly coloured T-shirts and the 26 letters of the alphabet. The Visitation Province committee members who were present joined us for the presentation.

The script took the form of a Congregation of Notre Dame language school – first using traditional methods which were no longer effective for learning the language, and then deciding to try “a new way.”

We hope you recognized your contribution to “the new way” in the words of the alphabet song and in our future directions. We closed the presentation singing Linnea Good’s “How then shall we live?” which continues the theme “Where is God not where I thought God was?”

As we continue to live “Rooted in Jesus Christ cultivating love and compassion” while responding in new ways to where God is calling us as Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame today, may the life-giving Spirit enable us to continue to find God in new and surprising places and circumstances.
