St. Mary's Academy of the Visitation Alumnae Luncheon

On the weekend of October 17th I had the delightful privilege of being the guest speaker (invited to share about my missionary life as a CND) at the alumnae luncheon for St. Mary’s Academy, Providence, Rhode Island, fondly remembered as part of “lovely St. Mary’s”. It was an incredible moment for meeting some of the 1960-65 graduates of St. Mary’s school who went on to the Academy for high school. But, considering that this high school closed some 22 years ago, there were many more incredible moments during this luncheon. Over 100 women gathered to meet former classmates and to remember their high school years and their CND teachers.

Much laughter and many stories echoed around the room. How touched I was to hear the deep appreciation for both the education they received and the loving support they always felt from their teachers (even when they were in trouble). Their appreciation for those years was so evident. Even women who had graduated 70 years ago were present and so genuinely grateful for the education and example they received from the CND. I couldn’t help thinking how lovely it would be for some former teachers (either from the grade school or high school) to appear at the luncheon next year to support these women who carry forward the gift they received at St. Mary’s.

At the conclusion of the luncheon I was so happy to receive their gift check for the CND missions in the USA. May they each be blessed for their generosity to the CND and their fidelity to being Visitation women.
