WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY 2016

Nina Glinski, CND

Theme: Called to proclaim the mighty acts of God (1 Peter 2:9)

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an annual worldwide ecumenical celebration traditionally held from January 18 to 25. By coming together during this week, we join with people around the world to pray for Christian unity – in worship, reflection, study, and community.

This year, we rejoice in the opportunity to pray with the Christians of Latvia. They call us to reflect on the mighty acts of God in our lives, and to find ways in which we can witness to these acts by working together for the unity of Christ’s Church.

Together we are invited bear witness to God’s mighty acts in a variety of ways:

  • Healing wounds. Wars, conflicts and abuses have wounded the people of Latvia and many other countries.
  • Searching for truth and unity. Awareness of our common identity in Christ calls us to work towards answering the questions that still divide us as Christians.
  • An active commitment to human dignity. Christians who have been brought out of darkness into the marvellous light of the Kingdom recognize the extraordinary dignity of all human life.
