The Spirituality of Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys

Marguerite Bourgeoys’ spirituality is basically Marian. Our saint wished to follow in the footsteps of the Blessed Virgin, to imitate the course of her life in all things and to go to God through her for God sent his Son through her.

This Marian spirituality centers on two particular aspects of the gospel : the Mystery of the Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth (Luke 1:39 ff) and Mary in the midst of the Apostles, after the Resurrection of Jesus (Acts 1: 11-14; 2:1-4).

The Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth

With regards to the Visitation, Marguerite writes: After the Blessed Virgin had spoken her consent to the angel she was made Mother of God by the power of the Spirit. In gratitude to the Eternal Father, she immediately offered herself to correspond with the graces of His divine majesty for the redemption of the human race. She immediately made her first visit to Elizabeth.

We marched for those of us in Cameroon, Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala and for all who are most affected by climate change and who bear the brunt of a system that favours those who have.

This December, 2014 world leaders will meet once again - this time in Lima Peru. As part of the lead up to the next major Climate Summit in Paris in 2015, representatives from the world’s governments are meeting to develop an outline of a new international climate agreement.
