Welcoming Refugees in Salmon Arm, BC

Teresa McKerral, CND associate and member of JPIC Core Committee, sent us a very positive report of happenings in her parish. The Social Justice Committee of St. Joseph’s in Salmon Arm was instrumental in setting-up a committee to initiate and organize efforts to bring in Syrian refugee families. Other sponsoring communities (Rotary Club, Our Lady of the Lake at Blind Bay) joined them, and also a number of non-affiliated citizens. They are preparing to offer a welcome to as many as seven families.

Second Sunday of Lent, 2016

Kathy Chadwick, an Associate in Florida, focuses on Peter’s response to the Transfiguration of Jesus and how we can relate that to our lives.

Imagine the confusion, terror, excitement and fear that Peter, James and John experienced at the Transfiguration of Jesus. They were privileged to see Jesus in the fullness of His divinity. We don’t know how James and John reacted, but impetuous Peter immediately thinks about how he can improve on it! As he tells Jesus about his plan to build three tents for Jesus and the prophets, Jesus must have been shaking his head and thinking, “will you ever get it Peter? It’s not all about you.”

24 Hours For The Lord Prayer Vigil

In his writing on the Year of Mercy, Pope Francis invites everyone to participate in 24 Hours for the Lord on March 4, 5. The School Sisters of Notre Dame at Wilton are praying in the following way:

  •  A common vespers on Friday, March 4 at 6 pm;
  •  A common prayer at 8 pm;
  •  Common prayer at 11 am, 1 pm, 3 pm, 5 pm on Saturday, March 5.

Congregation of Notre Dame sisters have been invited to participate in any or all of the prayer times. Sister Pat McCarthy, CND, will lead the 8 pm prayer service.
