Andrews of Charlottetown community is hosting a series of talks on Dementia. We, the sisters and residents, are fortunate to join the staff and public. The first in a four-part series was presented by Dr. Tim Stultz, provincial Gerontologist, who gave an overview of what dementia is and the different types of dementia. The following week we had Sarah MacDonald, RN, who spoke on how to communicate and respond to people with dementia. The following two presentations are on Dementia from a pharmacological approach, and the Alzheimer Society of PEI will present the demographics of dementia in Canada and PEI. The Alzheimer Society also offers support to PEI residents in need. “Have you forgotten your keys lately?” No need to worry – that’s just a passing fad!
This Saturday, Oct. 17th is the reunion at St. Mary of the Visitation in Rhode Island. So far 150 people have signed up – the largest number ever! It will take place at the West Valley Inn in West Warwick at noon.
Visitation Moments: This week I had wonderful Visitation Moments during a visit to St. Columba. Had a delightful lunch and sharing with Sister Rose who I was visiting; Sister Barbara Costello who was visiting Sisters Joan Curtin and Anna Romano who went out of her way to provide the lunch. With what ease do we come together! My second Visitation Moment was when two little boys across the street helped me catch my mischievous cat, Shadow (Houdina) when she got out of the house. On October 1, the Congregation of Notre Dame, as a principle donator to and supporter of the Roncalli Foundation, was invited to attend its 35th anniversary celebratory event held at La 5e Salle of Place des Arts. After enjoying a festive welcome-aperitif, the guests were invited to make their way to the performance hall. As guest performers, the foundation had invited a choir group of ten young women from the Philippines known as the Minstrels of Hope, currently touring to promote their new Time to Shine album. The Congrégation de Notre-Dame sisters in attendance were especially proud of these women; in four years, the Congregation mother house has welcomed them twice and, when in Montreal, has become one of their homes away from home.
