VISITATION CENTRAL ASSOCIATES’ WEEKEND ON HOWE ISLAND

Margaret Gustavel, associate

People began arriving at the Congregation of Notre Dame ND cottage, Villa Consolata, on Howe Island for our annual retreat weekend at around 3:30 pm on Friday, September 18th. Some of those that arrived before dark enjoyed a swim in the pool, the water was beautiful as was the fellowship and the setting.

We enjoyed a prayer service Friday evening about identity; "The eye through which I see God is the same eye through which God sees me…" (Meister Eckhart). This was a great beginning to the weekend, thinking of who we are in the eyes of God, each other and ourselves.

This was followed by social time and catching up with friends. Saturday morning the cottage burst with sisters and associates; those that stayed over Friday night and the many that came for the day. Our day was spent reflecting on the Gift of Uncertainty facilitated by Congregation of Notre Dame associate Melissa Breault with the help of Mary Myers who was unable to attend the weekend. We focused on Mary and Marguerite Bourgeoys's times of uncertainty; considered Mary or Marguerite Bourgeoys's willingness "to sit in the chaos" and to open herself to God's will and how we might imitate these inspiring women to help us in our own chaos and uncertainty.

Saturday was concluded with Mass at the cottage, dinner with friends and dancing and visiting in the evening.

Sunday morning was a great conclusion to the weekend with song and sharing; "I abandon myself to You, O God, you have called me by name...." The conversation focused on questions related to associate relationship and how God is calling Congregation of Notre Dame associates into the future.

It was a wonderful weekend as always, giving us support, strength and direction for our daily lives.
