January General Conference

Visitation Province

A highlight of the January 2015 General Conference was the two-day workshop with Father Anthony Gittins, CSSp. All Province and Region team members were invited to attend this workshop. Father Gittins has taught Theology and Cultural Anthropology at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago since 1984 and he is the author of many books. His new book, Living Mission Interculturally – Faith and Culture, will be published in the spring. It was a gift that all members of our Administration Team participated in this workshop with the hope of sharing it in some way with all our membership.

For these two days Father Anthony clearly and passionately encouraged us to look with new eyes at our challenge to move forward as an intercultural congregation. Intercultural living and ministry requires movement and new skills. We heard the challenge to open the boundaries of our microcosms – to grow more permeable to the experiences and world views of the “other” – to be challenged to move to the margins – to leave the comfort of home and to make home a place of welcome – to continue the pilgrimage of the radical journey of discipleship. We were challenged to a deeper, wider openness and consciousness of present and future community living and ministry in an intercultural context.

The Report of each General Conference is a collaborative writing effort which includes translation into four languages. This Report will be published in the next CND Communication.
