A House of True Hospitality!

Stephanie Manseau

There is an old hotel located on the south side of Chicago that has been renovated into a residence for various congregations and their works.

One of the floors is reserved for the Interfaith Committee for Detained Immigrants (ICDI). Sister Marilyn Medinger, CND, and a sister from another community have just moved in with a number of young women, supported by the ICDI, who are waiting for refugee status. For these women, this is a transition house where they will be provided with the services necessary to legalize their status: help with legal formalities, guidance, English language courses, etc.

What Marie Joseph House of Hospitality offers is a living environment where young women of diverse nationalities, cultures and languages who have lived in other situations, often difficult ones, can meet and support one another. Sister Marilyn does not handle administrative or other such matters. Her ministry is one of presence, compassion and accompaniment. Sister Marilyn’s care and attentiveness allow the young women to set aside bureaucratic procedure and live their lives as normally as possible!
