Waiting, Hoping, Desiring

Joan Lewis, CND

Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.

Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. (Hebrews 13: 1-2)

Mi nombre es: (My name is) Maria, Jose, Jesus I stand at the water's edge, of Mexico.

WAITING, WAITING, WAITING.

Looking on the other side of the river I dream of freedom. Cameras are watching my every move, like monsters ready to attack if I dip my foot into the waters.

The vast country of the North is before me. I WAIT, I WAIT, I WAIT

I ask myself: “Is there room for me in this expansive land?” How will I be received?

ARE THEY WAITING?

I have pulled up roots of family and friends

The trek has been long, tedious and dangerous.

With hope I hear the words "Your redemption is near at hand"

I remember the journey of Joseph with Jesus in the womb of Mary. I recall how they were received: No room here for you!

Each year, in our month of waiting we mark the arrival of God himself in human flesh.

“And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes,

and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.” (Luke 2:7)

I ask: WILL YOU MAKE ROOM FOR MY ARRIVAL?
