April 22, 2019, Earth Day Vegan Day at the CND

CND Social Justice Network

The CND Committee[i] coordinating the “Sowing Hope for the Planet” campaign (initiated by the Union of Superiors General, Rome), has prepared two activities for the observance of Earth Day on April 22, 2019.

The first is a celebration in 4 languages.

The second is a Congregation-wide Vegan Day.

What is a Vegan Day?

It is a day during which sisters and associates are asked not to consume products of animal origin:

  • Meat
  • Fish
  • Shellfish
  • Caviar
  • Milk
  • Eggs
  • Honey
  • Animal fat
  • Not to use products of animal origin or that were tested on animals. This vegan lifestyle applies to both foods and products of general use: clothing, household products and cosmetics…

Why a Vegan Day?

  • Environmental commitment
  • A day of prayer and reflection about overexploitation and overconsumption, and about the intensive livestock farming which uses important quantities of water and produces greenhouse gases.

On Earth Day, if the whole Congregation observes Vegan Day, it will be a great way to honour the Earth and considerably reduce our ecological footprint.
