To Accompany in Joy and Hope

Josephine Badali, CND

The first bilingual conference of the National Association of Vocation and Formation Directors (NAVFD) took place in Hamilton, ON, from April 22 to 25.

The Congregation de Notre-Dame, Visitation Province, was represented by Sisters Sheila Sullivan and Josephine Badali, as well as Susan Kidd who was the facilitator. Tom Rosica, CSB, from Salt and Light, set the stage with a presentation on Youth Evangelization and the Synod. In an engaging talk, he illustrated how the topics of the last synods: The Word of God, New Evangelization and The Family, have prepared the path for this synod on Youth.

Keynote speaker, Nathalie Becquart, a Xaverian sister from France, who is passionate about youth ministry, invited us to look at the world through the eyes of young people, to recognize the Church of Pope Francis and to be rooted in our baptismal identity which is a call to be missionary disciples, a call to holiness. Discernment, accompaniment and collaboration were highlighted as best practices for vocation ministry.

In keynote addresses, that were warm, personal and humourous, Cardinal Gerald Lacroix focused on the importance of fostering in young people a personal relationship with Jesus. Welcoming, accompanying, discerning and integrating are key words for our mission.

Here are Cardinal LaCroix’s talks, parts 1 and 2:

It is well worth the effort to watch or listen to even a segment of the talks.
