Peace in the New Year

Monica Lambton, JPIC Coordinator

The beginning of a new year is often a time for renewed prayers for peace. We will need them more than ever in 2018, but as we turn the page from 2017, I invite you to rejoice in all of the peacemaking that we have been part of. The Campaign to Eliminate Nuclear Weapons was the recipient of the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize and we have a CND connection to that. Take a look at this article – Sisters from Marguerite Bourgeoys Province are also founding, and continuing, members of Antennes de paix.

I was at the Montreal session of the tour `May Peace Be with Her`(mentioned in the article) and it was an honour to be in collaboration with these strong and courageous women working for peace in east Africa. I hold the Peace portfolio for CRC JPIC; CND sponsored Peace Poles across the country continue to touch hearts and minds and we are standing in solidarity with our Congregation de Notre-Dame sisters and associates in Blessed Sacrament Province who have a Corporate Stance against pre-emptive war and work tirelessly for this along with our CND NGO representative to the UN, Sister Stacy Hanrahan who has a specific focus on working towards a nuclear free world. Peace is possible. We are living it each day.
