Celebration!

Sister Melba Vásquez, a CND from Honduras, has been our guest since October 8 and will remain with us until November 30. She will then return to Montreal from where she will prepare to go on mission in New York.

It was amidst much joy coupled with surprises that we celebrated her Silver Jubilee in Summerside, PEI on Friday, November 10. She was aware we were celebrating her but had no idea that sisters from other areas were invited. Surprise… surprise… when we gathered to pray to have twelve additional sisters present to celebrate with us including Sisters Eileen McQuaid and Ann Broderick. Thanks everyone for the beautiful CND intercultural support!

Frances MacDougall had prepared a prayer service with the following opening prayer.

Risen Jesus, we rejoice in the light of your presence among us as we gather in this circle of love. We rejoice, for you bring to fulfillment all you desire us to be for your people. We rejoice in your faithfulness to Melba through these twenty-five years as she journeyed in the footsteps of Mary and Marguerite. Be with us in our celebration as we remember and pray in thanksgiving and joy for all that has been and for all that will be. Amen

Everyone had a punch in hand while Melba enjoyed opening her cards and gifts before we went to the decorated dining room to share a delicious meal together.

Women of Excellence Awards: We offer congratulations to Dr. Elizabeth (Libby) Osgood, our CND novice. Libby was in Halifax to receive an award from Progress Women of Excellence.

The Progress Women of Excellence Awards event is hosted each year by the Canadian Progress Club Halifax Cornwallis; it honours 7 inspirational women. Libby was nominated for her work as a passionate educator and innovative researcher.

This annual fund raising event is spearheaded by a committed group of volunteer women totally focused on helping those in need in the community such as Phoenix Youth Programs. The guest speaker was a young mother who credits Phoenix for turning her life around.

The evening was truly a celebration of women. We Sisters of the Congregation de Notre-Dame were delighted to be in attendance to celebrate the accomplishments of inspirational women and especially proud of Libby.

Movie Recommendation: Murder on the Orient Express is a 2017 movie version based on the Agatha Christie classic mystery. Kenneth Branagh plays Hercule Poirot the detective, with Johnny Depp, Judi Dench and others playing the other train passengers, all suspects in the murder. It's entertaining with good cinematography of the various landscapes.
