New Ministry For Women At Holy Cross/Immaculate, Heart Of Mary Parish, Chicago, IL

The associates and candidates at Holy Cross/ Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Chicago are beginning a Prayer Shawl Ministry. Associate Maria V. explained that many women in their immigrant community are afraid to leave their homes at this time. The purpose of this new ministry is to bring women together to pray, share and support each other as well as make prayer shawls. Maria describes the enthusiasm of their first gathering.

“First information meeting of our Sewing/Crochet/Knitting Group: We had seventeen women attend and the energy was great. Maria Eugenia did the welcome and you would have been proud of her as she talked of being a candidate for associates to the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame; she said how she felt an inspiration from St. Marguerite Bourgeoys in starting this project. This Saturday (March 25) we will have our first lesson on making the prayer shawls; every woman that came was excited. The ages range from 18 and up. They range from beginners with no experience at all to women who will be instructors. Many asked how come we did not start years ago; I laughed and said because we needed Sr. Marguerite to guide us.”

Service Around The Province: Staten Island associates and sisters prepared and served a meal at Project Hospitality on March 15. Jackie G. and the Grange Community are packing for Project Appalachia and loading the trucks on April 29th. We know associates are involved in many ministries.

Visit To Pensacola, FL

Southern Hospitality Marked Every Moment Of Regina And Sr. Joan’s March 23-27 Visit To Pensacola, Fl: On Saturday, the day retreat on “Discovering the Charism of Marguerite in the Stories of our Lives” was held at the beautiful setting of Gill’s home. The Associates appreciated realizing the connections between Marguerite Bourgeoys’s story and their stories and time to be with us and each other. That evening, Dominique shared the retreat materials with her husband, Tom, who could not make the retreat. We visited with Rebecca at Pensacola Catholic High. On Sunday, we attended liturgy at Sacred Heart Church with the Boroco family of six children, ages 4-15. Tom Boroco led the choir in beautiful liturgical music and Maria, the oldest child, played the clarinet. We left grateful for the passion and commitment of the Pensacola Associates to the Congregation’s Associate Relationship.
