Justice Peace and Integrity of Creation Committee

JPIC committee

The JPIC committee met November 23-25 at the mother house in Montreal. A discussion with the Province Leadership Team took place on Saturday afternoon. Sister Becky McKenna was at the table, and Sisters Eileen McQuaid and Maureen MacIsaac joined by conference call from Bedford.

The committee reviewed the work with their main collaborating partners from last year (CRC JPIC, Development & Peace, and KAIROS) and outlined the 2018/19 JPIC Action Plan. This plan includes adopting Laudato Si’ as a guiding compass and focusing on the issues of water, reconciliation with First Nations, following-up on climate action from our Corporate Stance and further exploring the peripheries building on the work from the Area Gatherings. Developing a practical spirituality continues to be a main focus of the JPIC work.

The social transformation we seek, including that of healing our planet, ending poverty and the cultivating of justice and peace, are leading into unknown territory. We are not alone. Many groups, although unsure of what this new territory will look like, are acting with hope in facing the challenges of nurturing a shift. Members of the JPIC committee expressed gratitude for the shared work of exploration.

Supporting those who are on the front lines working for justice and peace and ecological justice continues to be a core focus for JPIC.
