Sisters Of Mercy

Rose Mary Sullivan, CND

I am pleased to share with you that Blessed Sacrament (USA) Province supports the Sisters of Mercy effort to bring a speaker from the COPINH coalition in Honduras to the School of the Americas’ Convergence on the US/ Mexico border being held in October (7-10) of this year. I remind you that Berta Caceres, the Honduran indigenous and environmental rights campaigner, was murdered in early March, barely a week after she was threatened for opposing a hydroelectric project. The co-founder of the Council of Indigenous Peoples of Honduras (Copinh) was shot dead by gunmen who entered her home in La Esperanza. Some of the Congregation of Notre Dame Sisters in Honduras worked with Berta and were very affected by her murder. This is a concrete expression of solidarity with our CNDs and with the people of Honduras.
