Peace Pole Dedication

A cordial invitation was extended to all to come to the dedication and commemoration of the UPEI Peace Pole on Thursday, March 7, 2013.

“It is with great pride and honor that we are making this dedication and hope that many people from our University community and the general public will be in attendance to celebrate the occasion. The Peace Pole is a free-standing wooden pole which has been hand carved with the inscription; May Peace Prevail on Earth in 12 languages, and is an internationally recognized symbol of peace. There are over 250,000 Peace Poles located around the world in various locations, and is the first known one on Prince Edward Island.”

The UPEI Peace Project, as part of a Directed Studies course through the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, saw many student volunteers involved in numerous activities to raise funds for the purchase of the pole.  The structure can now be found within the Chaplaincy Center as a visible and tangible representation of the inclusive, peaceful and welcoming sanctuary at the heart of the campus.
