Atlantic Religious Congregations Associate Network

Christine Beaton, CND

ARCAN (Atlantic Religious Congregations Associate Network) Conference in Halifax last weekend welcomed 120 associates and sisters from various Atlantic religious communities. (10 CND sisters were in attendance).

The theme was Journeying Together in Relationship, and the experience was a joyful time of prayer, song, reflection, table conversation and large group sharing. Peg Madigan, CND Associate from NS, and Ann Gotfryd, CND Associate from Ontario facilitated the sessions; Sister Margie Gillis, SC of Halifax, acted as emcee and Sister Sandra White, CSM, led us in song and ritual.

Scripture passages explored included the Emmaus Story from Luke’s gospel, the Ruth‐Naomi story, and a reading from Acts 18:24‐28 that speaks of partners in mission. The final discussions centered around the question, ”As we journey together, into what future are we being called?” Responses were rich and varied. Kudos to the organizers of this event!

Eleanor McCloskey, CND My ARCAN experience: The meeting which was held in Halifax this past weekend connected me to Marguerite Bourgeoys as a young associate in Troyes and manifested the relationship that exists among the religious congregations and their associates throughout Atlantic Canada.

A special thank you to all the organizers and those who came from near and far to participate. It was truly a journey of faith, linking both the spiritual and material, fostering, listing and dialoguing in a spirit of Kinship. I trust that the experience of 30 years as CND Associates will actualize something novel and cocreative in the years ahead.

With gratitude & hope, Christine Beaton, CND
