Taking Action For The Paris Climate Conference

Monica Lambton, JPIC Coordinator

As we get closer to the Paris Conference, we are all invited to take action in whatever way we can. JPIC is highlighting two ways to get involved:

1. Join in the walk for 100% Possible: Marching Together for Climate Solutions. The weekend of November 28/29, just before the Climate Conference starts, the world will stand together for a weekend of global action to send a powerful message to global governments: Keep fossil fuels in the ground and finance a just transition to 100% renewable energy by 2050.

Actions in Canada are being organized and supported by several groups including Development & Peace, The Global Catholic Climate Movement, 350.org, Avaaz, and the David Suzuki Foundation.

JPIC is organizing a CND presence on Parliament Hill. If you are interested in joining us, or if you would like information on a March in your area, please contact Monica at the JPIC Office.

2. Citizens for Public Justice (CPJ) is inviting us to join together for Prayers for Paris. CPJ is coordinating the formation of a nation-wide prayer vigil throughout the Paris climate talks (November 29 – December 11). We are invited to pray to express gratitude for the gift of creation, to lament the devastation of the Earth, and to ask for boldness for those negotiating a new climate agreement. They’re asking Canadians across the nation to sign up for one hour of prayer. You can sign up and see who’s praying at: http://www.cpj.ca/climate-prayer
