MISCOUCHE ACADIAN MUSEUM... A DREAM REALIZED

Della Gaudet, CND

Yes, dreams do come true! Sisters from PEI who knew Sister Antoinette Desroches knew the dream that motivated and inspired her. We admired her tenacity for her project, while smiling that she had begun her “museum” by preserving artifacts under her bed until her dream could be realized. On Sunday, January 26, on the very same date and hour of the original meeting to launch the project held in 1964, Island Acadians and others gathered at the museum to recognize its contribution to the Acadian community during the past fifty years. Speakers acknowledged how the museum has safeguarded the heritage of the Acadian Community. During the afternoon, Sister Antoinette Desroches, herself, made an appearance impersonated by Sister Marie L. Arsenault.

The Museum boasts a permanent exhibit, a new exhibit featuring the first 50 years of its existence. A visit to the museum reveals research in genealogy, an archaeological display, artifacts and a conference room which hosts frequent public presentations. The museum has a website www.teleco.org/museeacadien
