In the Heart of
the World

Call of the Disciple

Day 3: Tuesday, Week 1

Disciples of Jesus called, like Mary, mother and first disciple of Jesus, to be a visible presence of Church in our world know the importance of making time each day where we can be in communion with God in our inner sacred centre.

The words of the prophet Isaiah echo in our hearts: “Morning by morning God wakens us, wakens our ears to listen as those who are taught” (Is: 50:4).

Each day then becomes a call to,

  • Befriend ourselves.
  • See the beauty within us. See the light within us.
  • Find the still point within us.
  • Be in our sacred centre:
  • It is a place of gratitude, a place of light.
  • It is a place for conceiving and giving birth.
  • (Mary Southard, CSJ)

Only in the depths of communion with God can we listen, discern and receive the Word of God and in faith, like Mary, say our “Yes” (Lk 1:38).

Mandala centre of light

This mandala, a circle, represents wholeness and infinity that reside in us.

  • I place myself in the presence of God.
  • I take time to gaze at the mandala, allowing the mandala to draw me inward.

Pope Francis reminds us that we need the ability to cultivate an interior space which can give Christian meaning to commitment and activity. (The Joy of the Gospel, #262)

  • What does taking time daily to be in my sacred centre, the core of my being, mean for me?
  • How do I befriend myself?

I praise you God for I am wonderfully made
(Psalm 139:14)

I pray that Christ may dwell in my heart through faith,
as I am being rooted and grounded in love.
I pray that I may have the power to comprehend,
with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth,
and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge,
so that I may be filled with all the fullness of God.
(Ephesians 3:17-19)
